The St. Clair County Day Program is an innovative, comprehensive youth services center designed to help troubled adolescents and their families. The program is structured to be individualized to meet the unique needs of each youth in his/her specific situation. It is licensed by the Department of Youth Services to accommodate adolescents ages 11-18 and is multi-funded through the St. Clair County Board of Education, Pell City School System, St. Clair County Juvenile Court, Eastside Mental Health, The Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair County Mental Health Authority, The Bridge, Inc., and various grant sources. Adolescents receiving services will be referred to the program by the St. Clair County Juvenile Court Judge.

WHY IS THE DAY PROGRAM NEEDED IN ST. CLAIR COUNTY?

For the Youth...
• It provides individual and group counseling in a professional and confidential setting.
• It allows a student who is behind academically an opportunity to get caught up and back on grade level.
• It gives youth a chance to redirect their course in life and change for the better.

For the Courts...
• It provides an effective alternative to incarceration, hospitalization, and further court involvement.
• It allows intensive aftercare and follow-up to take place for youth returning home from boot camp, alcohol and substance abuse treatment, etc.
• It reduces crime and prevents juvenile deliquency in St. Clair County.

For the Schools...
• It provides an alternative to suspension and expulsion.
• It allows the disruptive student an opportunity to learn behavior management skills and ultimately return to school as a productive student.
• It provides academic remediation for students who have experienced very little success in a regular school setting.

For the Community...
• It brings a greater number of prepared individuals into the work force.
• It reduces the amount of families receiving public assistance to meet their living needs.
• It ultimately increases a tax base that will result in improved infrastructure, schools, transportation, etc.

For the Family...
• It provides to the home a young person with less disruptive behaviors.
• It provides a more productive member to the family economically.
• It brings about a more stable home life meeting the needs of all its family members.
